1. Generally any personnel access area with a difference in elevation of 9 in. or more must have an approved means of moving from one elevation to the other, including stairways, ramps, sloped embankment, hoist, etc.
  2. Stairways having four or more risers or raising more than 30 in. must have a handrail and midrail along each unprotected side. The handrail shall be between 30 and 37 in. high.
  3. Where doors or gates swing open into a stairway, a landing platform or area must be maintained that is a minimum of 20 in. in width.
