1. A standard railing will consist of top rail, intermediate rail, toeboard and posts, and have a vertical height of approximately 42 in. from upper surface of top rail to floor, platform, etc. The top rail of the railing will be smooth surfaced, with a strength to withstand at least 200 pounds. The intermediate rail will be approximately halfway between top rail and floor.
  2. A stair railing will be of a construction similar to a standard railing, but the vertical height will be no more than 34 in. or less than 30 in. from upper surface of top rail to surface of tread in line with face of the riser at the forward edge of the tread.
